Omotola Jalade Proposes Jail Term For Domestic Violence Cases

Popular Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade has referred to the growing cases of domestic violence as a social disease which can be cured with stiff penalties for the offenders.

In a recent chat Omotola said that people will fear going that far if they know they will land up in jail for beating up their spouse.

In her own words;

"Domestic violence is a disease that needs to be cured, it needs to be eradicated and it can be that's the sad part... This is a disease that we know the cure, its right there, we just need to be bold enough to stand up for it and put legislation in place.

Until its a really punishable offence, it probably won't stop.

Its not enough to appeal to people senses because the people doing it have no sense so you have to put fear in them to let them know that there are repercussions, then you weigh your options; Is it worth me going to jail for, is it worth me losing all my life for, just because I'm angry and I want to beat someone, then you will think twice next time."
